Foundation— the first steps
Our company founders (twin brothers) witnessed their mother lose her chain of restaurants when they were just twelve-years old due to lack of capital and resources. From that day forward the commitment to underserved small businesses was born.
2015
Broker— back and forth
Started the company as an online credit marketplace, brokering deals between Latinx-owned businesses and lenders.
After closing $7 million in loans, it was time to change the business model.
2016
Controller— decisions, decisions, decisions
Transitioned from being a broker to become a direct lender, gaining control over the credit decision. Redefined credit algorithm and underwriting technology to automate 90% of the application process at lower default rates.
2018
Partner— we’re not alone
Entered into a strategic partnership with one of the largest non-bank lenders in Mexico. This marriage started with a $100M exclusive debt facility making Camino Financial poised for growth.
2019
Achiever— to the top
New funding structure enables phenomenal growth. Expansion began and then here comes COVID. The micro business sector across the world is just about to get a punch in the gut.
2020
Survivor— down not out
Camino Financial demonstrates resilience and above benchmark credit performance during COVID. The company launches a $10M COVID response initiative in collaboration with Community Investment Management (CIM).
2021
Leader— best in class
Became the first neo-CDFI (Community Development Financial Institution), bridging the gap in capabilities between fintechs and CDFIs. Camino Financial is on track to accomplish its goal of $1B in lifetime loans by the end of 2023.
